MAEROA INTERMEDIATE (1792)

Enrolment Scheme Effective from 29 April 2019

 The guidelines for development and operation of enrolment schemes are issued under section 11G (3) of the Education Act 1989 for the purpose of describing the basis on which the Secretarys powers in relation to enrolment schemes will be exercised.

 Home Zone

All students who live within the home zone described below (and shown on the map) shall be eligible to enrol at the school.

 Commence at the intersection of Vardon Road and Te Rapa Road

The boundary runs north east along Vardon Road. At the end of Vardon Road head directly to the Waikato River taking in all addresses on Minchin Crescent.

Follow the Waikato River south to the Fairfield Bridge before heading along Victoria Street to Edgecumbe Street (addresses from 1263 to 1370 Victoria Street are included).

Travel along Edgecumbe Street to Ulster Street (only even number Edgecumbe Street addresses are included), cross Ulster Street and continue along Richmond Street and onto Willoughby Street (all addresses from 280 to 457 Ulster Street and even number Richmond Street addresses are included).

Continue along Willoughby Street to the intersection with Tristram Street, turn right into Tristram Street and continue to the intersection at Mill Street (no Willoughby or Tristram Street addresses are included in zone).

The boundary continues south west along Mill Street and continues along Hall Street to the railway line at Frankton (no Mill Street addresses and only even number Hall Street addresses are included).

Follow the railway tracks south east and then south to Killarney Road. Continue west along Killarney Road to the round-about at Killarney Road, Tuhikaramea Road, Whatawhata Road, Dinsdale Road and Massey Street before turning left into Tuhikaramea Road (all even numbered to 294 and odd numbers to 217 Tuhikaramea Road are included).

At 294 Tuhikaramea Road the boundary heads across farmland to 115 Wallace Road, taking in all addresses on Wallace Road and Stonebridge Estate Road before heading back to Whatawhata Road (SH 23). 

Turn left into Whatawhata Road (addresses to 210 Whatawhata Road are included). The boundary then heads north taking in all addresses on Palm Grove Drive and Grandview Road to Ayrshire Drive (all addresses on Country Lane and Sunny Dale are also included).

Turn left into Ayrshire Drive and continue west to the round-about at Highgrove Drive, taking in all addresses on Friesian Place, Guernsey Place, Jersey Place, Hereford Place, Angus Street, Limousin Place, Harrogate Place, Highgrove Drive and Southworth Place.

Follow Highgrove Drive into Brymer Road and to the intersection of Brymer Road and Farnborough Drive. Brymer Road to number 106 is in zone. Farnborough Drive and its side roads are not in zone.

From number 100 Brymer Road, head northeast above Max Landing and Wimbledon Close to the round-about at Twickenham Place, Dominion Road and Farnborough Drive. Max Landing, Wimbledon Close and Twickenham Place are all in zone.

Continue along Dominion Road to Avalon Drive, then take a direct line north east to the railway lines (addresses to 98 Avalon Drive are included).

Follow the railway lines north to Sunshine Avenue, then head north east along Sunshine Avenue to Te Rapa Road (all addresses on Sunshine Avenue and Mainstreet Place are included), turn right into Te Rapa Road and return to the starting point at the intersection of Vardon Road and Te Rapa Road (even numbered addresses from 360 Te Rapa Road and odd numbers from 589 Te Rapa Road are not included).

Both sides of the in-zone roads above are included unless otherwise stated.

Proof of residence within the home zone will be required.

Each year, applications for enrolment in the following year from in-zone students will be sought by a date which will be published in a daily or community newspaper circulating in the area served by the school. This will enable the board to assess the number of places which can be made available to students who live outside the home zone.

Special Programmes

The school operates the following special programme:

Level 1 Māori Language Learning (Rumaki)

 Students who live within the schools home zone will be enrolled ahead of out of zone students, up to the maximum roll agreed between the school and the Ministry.

Criteria for acceptance into Level 1 Māori Language Learning (Rumaki)

Each year the board will determine the number of places which are likely to be available in the following year for the enrolment of students who live outside the home zone. The board will publish this information by notice in a daily or community newspaper circulating in the area served by the school. The notice will indicate how applications are to be made and will specify a date by which all applications must be received.

The procedure for determining which out of zone students will be enrolled if there are more applicants than places available, up to the maximum roll, is as follows.

First Priority will be given to siblings of tuakana in the unit.

Second Priority  will be given to students who have been in enrolled in Rumaki special programmes at other schools.

Third Priority will be given to any student who is the sibling of a former student of the Rumaki special programme.

Fourth Priority will be given to children from other schools who wish to enrol in the special programme.

Applicants seeking first or third priority status may be required to give proof of a sibling relationship.

 If there are more applicants in the second, third, or fourth, priority groups than there are places available, selection within the priority group will be by ballot, similar to that undertaken for the English Language Learning roll described in the section Out of Zone Enrolments (English Language Learning).

Out of Zone Enrolments

 Each year the board will determine the number of places which are likely to be available in the following year for the enrolment of students who live outside the home zone. The board will publish this information by notice in a daily or community newspaper circulating in the area served by the school. The notice will indicate how applications are to be made and will specify a date by which all applications must be received.

As per the enrolment scheme legislation, applications for enrolment will be processed in the following order of priority:                  

First Priority  must be given to students who have been accepted for enrolment in the following special programme(s) run by the school and approved by the Secretary of Education up to the maximum roll set for the programme:

Level 1 Māori Language Learning (Rumaki)

 Second Priority will be given to applicants who are siblings of current students.

 Third Priority will be given to applicants who are siblings of former students.

 Fourth Priority will be given to any applicant who is a child of a former student of the school.

 Fifth Priority will be given to any applicant who is either a child of an employee of the board of the school or a child of a member of the board of the school.

 Sixth Priority will be given to all other applicants.

If there are more applicants in the second, third, fourth or fifth priority groups than there are places available, Selection within the priority group will be by ballot conducted in accordance with instructions by the

Secretary. Under Section 11G (1) on the Education Act 1989. Parents will be informed of the date of any ballot by notice in a daily or community newspaper circulating in the area served by the school.

 Applicants seeking second or third priority status may be required to give proof of a sibling relationship.
