All classes at Maeroa learn an International Language. Sometimes this is taught across two classes, with one teacher covering the introductory programme and one covering the second stage programme. At present, four languages are taught in the school – French, German, Japanese, and Spanish - using the International Language series material put out by the Ministry of Education.
In addition, all students have Te Reo Maori at a basic level as part of their regular curriculum. This covers aspects of language, culture and protocol. A number of classes, extra to the Bilingual Unit, learn Te Reo Maori in greater depth rather than learning an International Language.
