Sports & Activities
We have several interclass competitions over the year which include softball, touch, netball, volleyball, and soccer. Students are encouraged to participate and represent their class in the competition as well as earn fairplay points.
Sports equipment is made available for students to use for games during the breaks. Students are responsible for the sensible use of any gear they have issued.
Students are expected to take part in our swimming programme held at the start of the school year as an aspect of Physical Education. Our pool is solar heated so there is no deterrent for students to get into the water. We have programmes for all levels of swimming achievement.
Maeroa students take part in a wide range of both summer and winter sports teams. Students and their parents are required to abide by a Code of Conduct for sporting participation and this is sent home early in the year. We expect high standards of commitment, fairplay and behaviour from any student representing the school.
We rely on parent support to assist with coaching and managing these teams, and value any offers of help.
A team of approximately 35 students are selected to participate in a range of sports including lawns bowls, cheerleading and touch rugby to name a few, over a week against schools form the Waikato and Auckland regions.
Trials for the Sports Camp Team are held in Term 2 and the coaches look for students that are physically capable and mentally strong! This is a challenging week where Maeroa is often the team to beat.
The cost of the camp is approx $250
If we have teams of outstanding calibre, then we consider whether it will be appropriate to enter them in the AIMS Games. This is an elite competition open to teams from all Intermediate and Middle Schools in New Zealand.
In the past we have sent teams to compete in the Netball, Boys Soccer, Basketball and individual competitors in Gymnastics, Tennis and Swimming.
