Week 3 Term 2 2025
Kia ora Koutou

What a busy and vibrant fortnight it’s been at Maeroa Intermediate! Our students have been involved in various activities that highlight their talents, positive attitudes, and school spirit.
We were proud of how our students represented us at the WIMS Football Tournament, showing fantastic sportspersonship throughout the day. Our WIMS Basketball teams also had outstanding results—congratulations to our boys' team for winning the tournament and our girls' team for placing second.
Our Tech/Arts enrichment groups are now underway, offering students opportunities to explore new skills and creative interests. We also welcomed speakers from Attitude, who delivered engaging and thought-provoking sessions about friendships and navigating social relationships – you can find out more about their work at www.attitude.org.nz.
We recently hosted Hamilton Girls’ High School, who spoke to our Year 8 girls about what to expect if they choose to attend HGHS in 2026 – an excellent chance for students to begin thinking about their future pathways.
Next week, Fraser High School is coming in to speak to our Year 8 students.
It was also great to see our Literature Quiz team representing Maeroa with such enthusiasm and deep knowledge of books—Ka rawe!
Today, we celebrated Pink Shirt Day with a sea of pink across the school. A big thank you to our Student Council for their mahi running a special pink-themed Ice Block Friday and to our staff and students for supporting such an important cause. Pink Shirt Day reminds us of the importance of standing up to bullying and fostering kindness and respect in all we do.
Thank you for your ongoing support. It’s great to see so many whaanau engaging with upcoming events, especially those interested in the leadership camps to Tongariro and the Blue Mountains. We’re looking forward to another exciting few weeks ahead.

Science Evening at Maeroa

You're warmly invited to our upcoming Science Evening on Wednesday 28 May, from 5:00–6:00 pm in the Maeroa Intermediate School Gym. This year’s theme is "Right Before My Eyes – Matter Matters", exploring the fascinating world of science through changing states of matter. See engaging, hands-on demonstrations and exciting experiments that bring science to life! It's an excellent opportunity for whaanau to connect with learning and discover the wonders of matter in action.
More information will come out next week to families.
We look forward to seeing you there!
Pink Shirt Day
Pink Shirt Day at Maeroa Intermediate was a vibrant and positive event, with students participating enthusiastically. There was a sea of pink across our playground as students and staff proudly wore pink to stand together against bullying. A big thank you to our Student Council, who not only ran their usual Ice Block Friday but also added a pink twist, selling a selection of pink-themed treats. It was fantastic to see so many staff getting into the spirit, with most wearing pink in support. Pink Shirt Day is a powerful way to raise awareness and promote kindness, respect, and inclusion across Aotearoa.
Well done to Maeroa Intermediate students who raised $1200 that has been sent to Pink Shirt Day.

Phones at School

This message is being reiterated from term 1 2025. No mobile phone use within our school grounds. This means as soon as they walk through the school gates at 8:15 am.
All students must turn off their mobile phones and store them in their bags when they enter the school grounds in the morning. They then hand them in for safekeeping at the office until the end of the day at 3:00 p.m.
This policy from 2024 is in line with changes in school laws and aims to reduce distractions, improve focus, and boost academic performance. This expectation has been made clear to all students and is in our enrolment documents.
What You Need to Know:
- Phones must be off and in bags when students walk through the school gates at 8:15 am in the mornings.
- Phones must not be switched back on/used until the student walks out of the school gates at 3 pm
- Phones must be off and handed in at 8:30 a.m. Phones will be placed in a box and taken to the office
- If students need to contact a parent, they can come to the office, or parents can call the school office at 07 8475014.
- If a phone is confiscated, parents can collect it from the school office between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
We appreciate your support in reinforcing this policy at home! Let's work together to create a focused, positive learning environment for all students. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out!
