Week 5 term 2 2025
Kia ora koutou Maeroa whaanau,

It’s been another busy and exciting week of learning at Maeroa. A highlight has been the buzz of scientific thinking in the lead-up to our Science Evening. Thank you to all the whaanau who came along on Wednesday night to support our learners at “Right Before My Eyes – Matter Matters.” It was a fantastic opportunity to showcase the changing states of matter and the great science happening in our classrooms.
This week, our hockey team represented us at the Waikato Intermediate & Middle Schools Hockey Tournament. They played with determination, skill, and the outstanding sportspersonship we are so proud of in our Maeroa students. Ka pai, team!
On Thursday a small group of Maeroa students went with Whaea Karyn, our art teacher to St Andrews Intermediate for the WIMS Art Day. These students also represented our school in a positive way.
A reminder that Monday, 2 June is King’s Birthday, and school will be closed for the public holiday. We hope this provides a good opportunity for students and staff alike to rest and recover from the winter bugs that are circulating.
Keeping Our School Safe and Respectful
We’re proud of how the majority of our students consistently demonstrate our school values—Maanakitanga, Maanawanui, and Whakamiha—by treating others with kindness and respect. However, occasionally, we see behaviour from a small number of students that is not acceptable, such as continued non-compliance, bullying, violence towards others, or serious disrespect.
When these incidents occur, I or one of the deputy principals address them. Where necessary, students may be stood down or, in more serious situations, suspended and required to meet with our Board of Trustees. We do not tolerate behaviour that puts others at risk or undermines the positive environment we work hard to maintain.
As always, we appreciate the support of our whaanau in reinforcing these expectations at home. Together, we can continue providing a safe and respectful space for all our learners.
Ngaa mihi nui,
Susan Wood
Principal – Maeroa Intermediate School

Student Reports and Conferences

Student Reports
Student reports will be emailed home on Wednesday, 16 July, the first week after the holidays. These reports provide an overview of your child’s progress, attitude to learning, and how they are engaging with school values and expectations.
Student Conferences
Our student conferences will be held the following week, on:
Thursday 24 July from 1:00 pm – 7:30 pm
(Students may go home at 12:30 pm after lunch)Friday 25 July from 8:30 am – 4:00 pm
(Students only need to come to school for their scheduled conference)
Student conferences are a valuable opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher, discuss their learning journey, and celebrate their progress. They are an essential part of building strong school–home partnerships.
Supervision
If your child is unable to go home at 12:30 pm on Thursday or if they require supervision on Friday, we will have staff available at school to supervise them.
Details about how to book a student conference and request supervision will be shared before the end of this term.
We encourage all families to attend and participate in this important learning conversation with your child and their teacher.
