In Our Classrooms

Students are placed in classes that are a composite year 7/8, progress and success in English, Maths, Scientific and Social Inquiry is the core learning focus of homeroom classes. Teachers track and plan for individualised learning, recommend additional support, and promote extension through knowing the learner and what makes them tick.

The importance of balancing skill development, knowledge building, and thinking about learning is considered and planned for within programmes.

Scheduled PE and HEALTH lessons ensure the physical and emotional needs of the emerging adolescent are addressed. Students build on these learning opportunities in our TECH/ARTS rotation. Exploration of the technology process allows for the real-life application of knowledge. The arts build on existing talents and often help students discover newfound passions. International Languages and Te Reo Maaori are compulsory with opportunities for extension across learning areas within our Talent Time Options Programme.

DIGITAL LEARNING is integrated into all aspects of learning with devices available in all learning spaces. We are not a BYOD school and students do not need to bring their own devices.

Specialised Class

We have 3 specialised classes that have limited spaces available each year and students are welcome to apply to be considered for a place when they enrol.

Te Puawaitanga - Maaori Language Unit

This space is a Reo Rua double class that works from the New Zealand Curriculum in English however is strengthened with Te Reo Maori instruction every day and Te Ao Maaori perspectives across the curriculum. There is a strong focus on Kapa Haka as a kaupapa for learning and understanding.

Te Ara Poutama - GaTE Class
The more academically minded students that work within this unit can work with increased independence and self-direction. Typically, these students work in the top 25% of New Zealand for their age cohort in one or more areas and enjoy the challenge of academic rigour.

Sports Unit
Focus on academic success through sporting models balancing the classroom with the sporting arena. All subjects are taught in this class it is not just sport all week however a sporting context is used as a vehicle for learning.
