General information for Parents

Cell Phones

Students are not permitted to carry a cell phone during school hours 8.30am – 3.00pm. Students who require a cell phone for out-of-school purposes are to hand their phone to their classroom teacher at the beginning of the day, and they will be kept at the office and returned at the end of the day.

If students have decided not to hand in their phones and are caught using it during the day, it will be kept at the office and a parent/caregiver will need to collect. If it is not handed it we are unable to take responsibility if it is taken or broken.

Homework

Homework is an opt-in option at Maeroa, and Homework Challenges are provided by the classroom teacher who supports our koru system. We encourage students to set and meet their goals by participating in what they can.

Leaving school during the day

No student may leave the grounds during school without signing out at the office. An explanatory note from parents or caregivers must be presented each occasion, and students must be collected from the office by a person nominated on their enrolment card.

Maeroa Facebook

For up-to-date information, cancellations and changes to our school day, check out our Facebook page. We use this means of social media to communicate instantly and effectively with our community.

Money and Valuables

Money and valuables requiring safekeeping should be placed in a clearly labelled envelope and handed to the classroom teacher, who will follow our “all care but no responsibility” policy. No responsibility will be accepted for money or valuables not handed in.

All personal items, uniforms, books and other equipment must be named. All students must respect the property of others and only use it with the owner’s permission.

Payments

Our preferred method of payment is through Internet banking. Our school account number is 12-3454-0024510-00. Use your child’s full name as a reference and write briefly what the payment is for in the particulars.

Alternatively, payments can be made by EFTPOS or in cash at the school office. Arrangements for a payment plan can be made with Tania Sherwin in our accounts office - 847 5014 or misaccounts@maeroa.school.nz
